Pre-Professional Health

Associate of Science Degree programs in Pre-Professional Health are designed to satisfy minimum requirements for admission to professional schools. In general, Pre-Professional students at Walters State who earn their associate of science degree transfer to a four-year college or university to earn a bachelor's degree prior to applying for admission to a professional school. However, many Walters State graduates have transferred directly into a professional school. The recommended curriculum for a program may vary depending upon the admission requirements of the degree granting institution. Walters State offers Pre-Professional Associate of Science degrees in the following areas:

Physicians, dentists, optometrists, veterinarians, and other medical professionals living in East Tennessee and beyond began their higher education careers at Walters State.

Walters State offers an excellent preparatory foundation for baccalaureate and professional programs in the fields of chiropractic, dentistry, medicine, occupational therapy, optometry, pharmacy, physical therapy, and veterinary medicine.

Walters State has forged strong relationships with regional health professional schools. Our graduates have outstanding records of acceptance into Campbell University, Mercer University and Samford University schools of pharmacy; the University of Tennessee Center for Health Sciences; UT Chattanooga; and East Tennessee State University health programs, to name only a few. In a typical year, 25 to 30 Walters State graduates are accepted by professional schools.

In addition to receiving a strong academic foundation, Walters State Pre-Professional students have the opportunity to visit professional schools through college-sponsored trips and are advised on the application and interview process required for admission to professional programs. Pre-professional students also receive guidance in determining prerequisite coursework that meets the curriculum requirements of the transfer institution.
